Twisted Long Xenotime Crystal Cluster
Twisted Long Xenotime Crystal Cluster from Zagi Mountain, Mulla Ghori, Khyber Agency, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Pakistan
Collection American Museum of Natural History
Description This is a huge, clearly "twisted" Xenotime crystal that has to be at the top of the charts for the locality. Most Xenotimes from this locale, already pretty world class I might add, are 1-2 cm. Few exceeded 3 cm, and this is the largest I have personally seen out of several hundreds looked at in the last 3 -4 years since they started to trickle out here. The color is very good, and changes a bit in hue depending on the spectrum of the lighting from red-brown to yellow-orange. The gwindel-like twist is particularly dramatic because of the vertical height in which it can express itself, making this a miniature with a bit more pizzazz than you expect out of most generally drab REE species. This is a major rarity for Pakistan, in exquisite display quality.
